Walter Hendl & Chicago Symphony Orchestra: Sibelius – Violin Concerto in D Minor (Multichannel-Hybrid-SACD, Analogue Productions)

The name of the conductor Walter Hendl is a bit small on the cover of this album. That was because he had to stand in for Fritz Reiner, who was ill, so that star Jascha Heifetz still got the right orchestral accompaniment for the recording from 1960 with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Nonetheless, this recording from RCA’s Living Stereo series is one of the best known and best recordings of the Sibelius Violin Concerto.
