Joseph Haydn: Die Schopfung (2CDs, Br-Klassik)

With the live concert recording of Joseph Haydn’s Creation, BR KLASSIK is the third CD recording by old master Bernard Haitink at the podium of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra after Mahler’s Ninth and Bruckner’s Fifth Symphony. Haitink has been associated with this ensemble as a guest conductor for over 50 years. Haydn’s oratorio The Creation, premiered in 1798, immediately became a repertoire piece and the greatest success that the Esterházy Kapellmeister had ever recorded. Today it is considered an important touchstone for an ensemble of solos, choir and orchestra. At Bayerischer Rundfunk, the choir and symphony orchestra have joined forces for the present recording and a renowned team of soloists have come together: The solo parts of the three archangels are performed by the well-known soprano Camilla Tilling and Mark Padmore, who can also be heard on BR-KLASSIK in Britten’s War Requiem, and the Bass-baritone Hanno Müller-Brachmann, who, as a representative of the younger generation, is pursuing a remarkable singing career in opera, lied and concert.
