Before the Beatles came out, Annunzio Paolo Mantovani was the most successful British artist. He was the first to sell more than a million copies of a stereo album and in 1959 was represented in the charts with six albums at the same time. The Italian-born conductor and composer grew up as the son of a violinist who was engaged as concertmaster at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London.
Mantovani became famous for the “Cascading Strings” style he developed, a reverberation effect that is produced exclusively through arrangement and not through recording technology. This sound became his trademark and the title Charmaine, composed in this style, was a worldwide hit.
This track is an SHM-SACD. This format is the further development of the single-layer SACD and uses a particularly light-transparent plastic (super high material). It enables the pit-land structures to be read out much better on the surface than is possible with hybrid SACDs. The SHM-SACDs from Universal are generally re-digitized from the master tapes of the albums into DSD without any changes. SHM-SACDs can be played on any SACD player.
