Mozart, Gliere, Korngold: Konzerte fur Klarinette, Harfe, Violine (CD, Br-Klassik)

Time and again, the ARD Munich International Music Competition is the venue for concert performances that make you forget that this is about jury points and minimizing errors. Suddenly all competitive thinking is forgotten and the focus is on the musical experience, suddenly the space opens up for adventure, daring, spontaneity and perfect musical moments. Three such highlights with first prize winners are combined on this CD. Sebastian Manz, again First Prize Winner in 2008 after 40 years, played Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto on the original basset clarinet, accompanied by the young shooting star of the conductor scene, Cornelius Meister. The French harpist Emmanuel Ceysson enchanted the audience with opulence and dazzling colors in September 2009 with Reinhold Glière’s rarely performed harp concerto. And Hyeyoon Park, at the age of 17 one of the youngest finalists in the history of the competition, showed real child prodigy qualities in Erich Wolfgang Korngold’s violin concerto, which sparkles with Hollywood charm.
