Sting is back with his new album The Last Ship. The album was inspired by Sting’s play of the same name, which will premiere on Broadway next year. Thematically, the piece and album deal with the central themes of homecoming, self-awareness and Sting’s childhood memories of his home town Swan Hunters Shipyard in Wallsend, England. The Last Ship is a moving and complex parable of our modern times and the things that occupy us deep inside.
The play, on which Sting has been working very intensively for three years and with which he found a new creative outlet, was created in collaboration with Tony Award winner Joe Mantello (director of “Wicked”, “Other Desert Cities”), John Logan (author of “Red”, “Skyfall”) and Brian Yorkey (author of “Next To Normal”). The album The Last Ship was produced by Rob Mathes, who in addition to Sting for the works of others
The likes of Eric Clapton, Elton John, Lou Reed and Carly Simon have already been responsible. It was arranged and mixed by Donal Hodgson.
The Last Ship will also be available as a deluxe version and vinyl.
