The repertoire of the conductor Mariss Jansons, who died in 2019, was extraordinarily broad and ranged from the classical to the modern. One of his main focuses in late Romantic music was the symphonic work of Richard Strauss, for which he found an ideal ensemble in the symphony orchestra. The program at hand includes three of Strauss’ most famous compositions, starting with the Rosenkavalier Suite, through the colorful spectacle of Till Eulenspiegel, and ending with the Four Last Songs. Here Mariss Jansons brings one of the most celebrated sopranos of recent times together with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra.
